It was love at first sight when Santa Monica resident SCOTT PERRY met
OLIVIA LE CHAT at Best Friends Animal Society in July 2015.

Olivia, a 2-year old medium hair mix previously named Collette, hopped into Perry’s girlfriend’s lap, and straight into their hearts. And when Olivia came home with the couple, she hid under the furniture for months.

Says Perry, “I don’t know why Olivia pulled the disappearing act, but within days of my girlfriend leaving the next year, Olivia emerged from her shell and has not left my side ever since!”

Fast forward to 2020, and after five years together (and 2+ months in self-isolation), Perry decided to take the relationship to the next level by proposing to Olivia one morning on the front porch, where she likes to lay in the sun. And to his surprise, Olivia said, “Meow!” which Perry took as a “Yes!”

The two have set up a wedding page https://www.zola.com/wedding/herecomesthecat, and are inviting everyone to witness their marital bliss at noon PST on Saturday, May 23, via Perry’s Instagram Live (@scottperry).

RSVPs are encouraged on the site, and donations to Best Friends Animal Society can be made either on the wedding site’s registry or directly to BFAS https://nkla.org using the hashtag #herecomesthecat.

Says Perry, “My kitty has helped me stay sane during this lockdown. Pets allow us to have a warm, positive interaction with another living creature while we have to maintain distance from others. And I am sure that our furry friends have helped millions of others cope with this situation worldwide.

“The impact of the work that shelters have done is immeasurable. They provide safety to animals and happiness to families throughout the year, especially when we are smack dab in the middle of kitten season. I challenge everyone to donate and adopt from local shelters, and commit to their pet on May 23.”
