“Animal shelters across the County are over capacity, including OC Animal Care in Tustin,”
shared Supervisor Foley. “This shelter has capacity for about 200 dogs and 300 cats, but
currently houses more than double its max capacity of animals. By hosting Animal Adoption
Day, we hope to encourage the public to adopt, foster, or volunteer with our County shelters to support our region’s homeless pets.”
The event launches a month-long, first-come first-serve initiative where Supervisor Foley’s office will waive adoption fees for up to 200 pets.
Each adopted animal comes with a microchip, vaccinations, spay or neutering, and an
anti-parasite treatment. Additionally, each adopted pet will receive a certificate for a free veterinary exam at participating Southern California Veterinary Medical Association clinics within 72-hours of adoption. Walk-ins are available for cat adoptions. Those looking to adopt a dog are encouraged to book an appointment for expedited service but can also drop-by to visit. A few of the most prevalent breeds currently available for adoption at OC Animal Care include huskies, German shepherds, and pit bulls.
“Thank you to Supervisor Foley for hosting this event and encouraging our community to opt to adopt their new best friend from OC Animal Care,” said Andi Bernard, OC Animal Care Director. “Our shelter is facing a staffing shortage while caring for over 900 animals through our shelter and foster programs. With waived adoption fees, free starting supplies for each adopting family, and the drive-thru pet food pantry, we invite community members to join us so we can connect hundreds of cats and dogs with their forever families.”
